The machines of the island
In the heart of the city, on the former shipyards of Nantes, a magical and fascinating world was born: the wonderful machines of the island.
The two artists-creators, François Delarozière and Pierre Orefice, were inspired by the invented worlds of Jules Verne, the mechanical universe of Leonardo da Vinci and the industrial history of the city of Nantes.
The most famous of the Nantes creatures, the Great Elephant, is nearly 12 meters high. Sculpted out of wood and steel and perfectly articulated, the impressive pachyderm strolls in the middle of the island carrying on its back about fifty passengers.
The Carrousel of the marine worlds is a giant carousel of 25 meters high presenting to the public about thirty animals and marine creatures.
